Farewell is the final chapter to Celeste, and one of the hardest^[1]. Released on September 9, 2019 as a free content update, it features a space-themed setting, and various new mechanics such as Double Diamonds, Exploding Fish and Jellyfish. It also brings back mechanics from every other chapter of Celeste, chapters 1 through 8 inclusively.

Farewell introduces Wavedashing to the player, but also uses other speedrun techniques such as Wallbounces. Unlike all other numbered chapters in Celeste, only one side (an A-Side) is present, owing to its sheer difficulty. It is initially unlocked as soon as one of Chapter 8's sides (8A or 8B) is complete, but more than half of the chapter's checkpoints are gated off by a Crystal Heart Gate requiring fifteen hearts (all A-Sides plus 1B through 7B).
