Celeste Wiki:User access levels

From Celeste Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Different users on Celeste Wiki have access to different functions of the site. While anyone can view articles here, there are certain technical restrictions imposed at each level of the user hierarchy.

Unregistered users

Unregistered users are users whom do not have an account on Celeste Wiki. These users may freely create an account for themselves, create both regular and discussion pages in most namespaces, and view the abuse filter.

Unregistered users may not move pages, delete pages, edit some backend pages (notably templates, interface pages and Lua modules), and perform some actions which may have the potential to damage the wiki.

Unregistered users are identified via their IP address. An account is required in order to mask your IP address.

Registered users

Registered users are users whom have an account on Celeste Wiki. These users notably gain the ability to edit personal stylesheets and scripts, edit pages requiring a logged-in user to edit, mark edits as minor, move pages, and upload files. They also share may of the same rights as unregistered users.

Autoconfirmed users

You are not logged in, so you are not autoconfirmedYour account is autoconfirmedis not autoconfirmed.

Autoconfirmed users are users whom have made at least 10 edits on Celeste Wiki, with at least 4 days of existence on the wiki. This is a baseline that helps ensure that users are not here to vandalize anything.

Autoconfirmed users most notably gain the ability to skip CAPTCHAs and to edit semi-protected pages. They also gain the ability to edit templates and Lua modules, pages which are normally locked off to newer users in order to ensure no vandalism occurs. They can also bypass some IP rate limits applicable to newer users.

Confirmed users is a similar user access level which is equivalent to autoconfirmation, but it is manually given to new users whom have not reached the 10-edit/4-day threshold. There are no differences between manual and auto-confirmation.

Extended confirmed users

Extended confirmed users are users whom have made at least 500 edits on Celeste Wiki, with at least 30 days of existence on the wiki. This is a higher baseline that proves dedication towards the project.

Extended confirmed users most notably gain the ability to view patrol marks, and to patrol various edits. This allows them to distinguish edits from newer users more easily, in order to help them. They also gain the ability to upload files via a URL, instead of manually uploading them.

Other non-administrative user rights

Autopatrolled status

Autopatrolled user are, well, automatically patrolled. This user access level is redundant with "extended confirmed users", and therefore is given to newer users whom demonstrate the same amount of knowledge and/or prowess as someone whom normally is extended-confirmed. This user right may be freely given out by sysops.

Rollback

Rollback is a special tool that can be used to fight back vandalism. It allows for undoing all edits performed by one specific user on one page. Rollback rights may be requested by directly messaging a sysop; this user right, just like autopatrolled status, may be freely given out by them.

IP Exemption

IP exempt status is granted to any user who may be editing from a location where their IP is blocked, either locally here, or globally via Miraheze. It allows for the user to bypass any IP block imposed on their IP address or an IP address range, and additionally allows for them to be able to bypass any global (Miraheze-imposed) blocks. However, these users are not immune to having their privileges revoked on this wiki if they choose to start vandalizing. IP exemption may be requested by asking a sysop on their talk page directly.

Administrative user rights

Administrator (Sysop)

Administrators, or sysops, are users with administrative privileges over much of the wiki's functioning. They gain a variety of administrative and moderation tools, such as the ability to block other users, protect pages to any level up to and including full protection, edit fully protected pages, edit interface pages and sitewide CSS/JS, import pages from other wikis, override any title blacklists, unblock users, delete pages, and view deleted pages. For short, it's a very powerful right which must not be abused.

Administrators are additionally capable of granting IP exempt status, rollback, autopatrol and confirmed user rights. They are able to demote themselves, but are not able to summon other admins.

Administrators are elected democratically via the Vote for sysops system.

Bureaucrat

Bureaucrats essentially act as "super-admins". They are able to promote users to sysop status, and to demote them away from it. They also gain the ability to designate users as bots, and gain the ability to request for interwiki admin status.

Bureaucrats are elected democratically via the Vote for sysops system.

Special-purpose administrative user rights

Interwiki administrators

Interwiki administrators are bureaucrats with the ability to edit the interwiki table, found at Special:Interwiki. This privilege must be granted via a vote at the Interwikis talk page, and can only be granted by a Miraheze steward. No other privileges are connected with this one.

Check users

Check users are users with the ability to check another user's IP address. Check user status is limited to Miraheze stewards and other Miraheze users with the global checkuser right.

Oversight

Oversight is a special-purpose user access level granted to Miraheze stewards and other Miraheze users with the global oversight right. They are able to oversight an edit containing personally identifiable information or other dangerous contents, hiding it from all users including administrators.

Stewards

Stewards are essentially the bureaucrats of Miraheze itself. They have the ability to summon new bureaucrats, admins, and all other userrights; they can also bestow the interwiki administrator status to local bureaucrats. They also have the ability to grant themselves ManageWiki rights, in order to manage much of what goes on in the wiki (e.g. creating new namespaces).

Empress

Empress is a role given to the founder of Celeste Wiki. They have, just like stewards, the ability to summon new bureaucrats, and are able to use ManageWiki to manage much of what goes on in the wiki, such as creating new namespaces and delegating more rights to each access level. However, unlike the steward role, this user access level is limited to Celeste Wiki, instead of the entirety of Miraheze.
