The text of Celeste Wiki is copyrighted (automatically, under the Berne Convention) by Celeste Wiki editors and contributors and is formally licensed to the public under onetwo or several noncommercial but liberaldifferent licenses. Most of Celeste Wiki's text and some of its images are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 43.0 InternationalUnported License (CC BY-NC-SA) or any later version, as well as the GNU General Public License, version 3 only. Some text has been imported only under CC BY-SA, older versions of CC BY-NC-SA and compatible licenses; such text will be identified on the page footer, in the page history, or on the discussion page of the article that utilizes the text. All CC BY-SA licensed content is automatically relicensed to GPLv3 when used here on Celeste Wiki, unless otherwise specified. All CC BY-NC-SA content licensed with a version prior to version 3.0 will be converted to version 3.0. Every image has a description page that indicates the license under which it is released, unless it is a Celeste game asset or screenshot, in which case it is tagged as such, or unless it is a piece of media used under fair use, in which case it is identified as such and the rationale is provided.

The licenselicenses Celeste Wiki uses grants access to our content and three of theall four freedoms outlined by the GNU Project. Celeste Wiki content can be copied, modified, and redistributed if and only if the copied version is made available on the same terms to others and acknowledgment of the authors of the Celeste Wiki article used is included (a link back to the article is generally thought to satisfy the attribution requirement; see below for more details). Copied Celeste Wiki content will therefore remain free under an appropriate license and can continue to be used by anyone subject to certain restrictions, most of which aim to ensure that freedom, in a non-commercial context. This principle is known as copyleft in contrast to typical copyright licenses.

Celeste Wiki is also authorized to use its own content for limited commercial purposes, as outlined in the Miraheze Content Policy, including fundraisers and Celeste-related commissions (affiliate links), e.g. referral links when linking to the Itch IO version of Celeste. Any funds acquired via Celeste Wiki will be used to maintain Celeste Wiki itself (e.g. domain name renewal), and/or be donated to trans rights and other trans-friendly charitable organizations.
To this end, permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify Wikipedia's text under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license or any later version of the same license.

If an older version of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license is required, either one of these three licenses are approved for use, any of these licenses will be approved, as long as the same criteria within this copyrights page, including commercial use exceptions, are maintained.
* CC BY-NC-SA 2.5 Generic
* CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 Generic

For the purposes of commercial use by third parties, the GNU GPLv3 must be used. Additionally, not all pages are eligible for commercial use. Further instructions will be provided in the future.

Any texts that were already licensed under the terms of a commercial-permitting Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License are to be upgraded to GPLv3. This clause primarily targets templates imported from Wikipedia, which licenses its content under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Celeste's soundtrack in this wiki is used with permission from Lena Raine. This permission has been granted indirectly, with Kevin Regamey acting as a middle-person whom contacted Lena Raine on Celeste (admin)'s behalf. Proof has been attached in the screenshot shown on your right.

This permission does not extend to any covers of Celeste's soundtrack, or any part of it not used or intended for use in Celeste. So, any covers of Celeste's OST are NOT covered by this permission. Implicitly, this permission refers to the OST, B-Sides OST, Farewell OST and Madeline's Grab Bag, nothing else.

All files for Celeste's OST on this wiki are obfuscated, in order to comply with Lena Raine's wishes. No download link is provided, and won't be provided on demand either. No digital restrictions management is employed, because Celeste (admin) believes that DRM is universally wrong; however, this does not give you an excuse for piracy. Celeste's soundtrack is not licensed under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, any other Creative Commons license, or any other provisions enabling the sharing of such files.

<blockquote>;17 U.S.C. § 107
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 17 U.S.C. § 106 and 17 U.S.C. § 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:
:# the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
:# the nature of the copyrighted work;
:# the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
:# the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.</blockquote>

Fair use concerns a limited number of cases in which non-free, "all-rights-reserved" media which is not directly related to Celeste may be uploaded onto the Celeste Wiki and used without the author's prior permission. These files must not be orphaned (must be used on at least one page), and must be used on a page in which the photo is relevant and irreplaceable. Fair use does not mean that you may freely upload any file without permission.
